We woke up to pouring rain this morning and it continued to come down all day long! We abandoned our previous plans and made some new ones with more indoor locations. A tour of the parliament building in Bridgetown was the first stop on our list today. The picture of the building below is taken from Google because they don't allow photography of the building once inside the gates- also the weather is much better in the picture than it was when we visited:)
The tour of the building was really interesting, they have a gallery that explains the development of the parliament system in Barbados and another gallery dedicated to the 10 national heroes- you can look at who the 10 people are here: http://barbados.org/people/heroes.htm
After our parliament tour, we scurried down the boardwalk in search of the St. Patrick's Cathedral. The rain brought out the oils in the wood of the boardwalk and made it seem almost like we were walking over a rainbow- a slippery rainbow at that!
We finally reached St. Patrick's Cathedral and found a gorgeous building with a few people inside ready to start mass. There were a bunch of little old ladies in the back that were so happy to have visitors to sit by. I am often struck by the grandeur of these enormous buildings- they are so majestically designed and create an other worldly feeling when you sit inside of them.
On our way home, we ran into a slug that was the size of my middle finger. He was the biggest slug I have ever ever seen! I was so glad that Kenric spotted him before I stepped on him because 1) I would have felt really bad for squishing him and 2) cleaning him off my shoe would have been a very messy experience.
The rain finally slowed to a drizzle around 7pm this evening so we decided to hop on a bus down to Oistins to catch the Friday fish fry! We had heard so much about the weekend fish fry and just had to go. There were so many vendors, it was hard to choose what we wanted to try, but we finally settled on grilled marlin. It was so good! I would say that I'm a fairly picky fish eater- if it tastes too fishy I just can't eat it, but this marlin was seriously the best fish I've ever had! Kenric really liked it too, which is saying something!
Finally, after having our fill of fish and being soaked to the bone by the rain, we got back on the bus home and drove back to our little house in Fitts Village. I never thought I'd say this, I'm much more of a winter person than a summer person, but I really miss the sun! Here's to prayers for the sun to come out tomorrow!
